Auditions
Want to act in one of our productions?
We host open auditions at the Robert Lee Brault Playhouse for all of our Mainstage shows and some Reader's Theater (per director discretion), which typically consist of cold reads from the script with other actors. No prior acting experience or preparation is necessary to be considered for a role, and we welcome all skill levels.
To be notified of upcoming auditions, please send us an email or fill out one of the forms below with your name, address, and phone number, and we will add you to our actors newsletter list.
Interested actors should plan to attend at least one day of auditions and stay for the duration of listed times. If you would like to borrow a script or if are interested in auditioning but cannot make the scheduled dates, please contact our box office.

Note: In general, all character ages and descriptions are flexible. The director will cast whoever is the best fit for the role based on their vision of the show.
⭐️ THE SPITFIRE GRILL a musical by Fred Alley & James Valcq

Times: Sunday, July 26 from 4:00-6:00pm & Monday, July 27 from 6:30-8:30pm

SYNOPSIS:
Fresh out of prison, Percy searches for a fresh start at The Spitfire Grill in rural Gilead, WI – a town dampened by years of regret and longing. As she navigates her way into the community alongside Hannah and Shelby, Percy seeks a second chance in the form of forgiveness, hope, and healing.
This American musical celebrating its 25th anniversary is an inspirational story of redemption, perseverance, and the power of human kindness. (Musical, Drama, Heartfelt)
CHARACTERS:
PERCY TALBOTT – (Early 20s) Pretty, if a bit rough-edged, her face declares the strength of her youth and a sadness beyond her years. Her accent has a southern Appalachian cadence. Strong folk/country belt to D, some head voice required.
HANNAH FERGUSON – (About 70) A tough-skinned and flinty old bird with a short, no-nonsense manner bordering on the bitter. Mezzo/alto chest range.
SHELBY THORPE – (Mid-30s) A plain, soft-faced creature with a shy, almost ethereal manner. Shimmering folk soprano with strong high belt to D.
CALEB THORPE – (Early 40s) Out-of-work foreman of the stone quarry. Frustrated working man clinging to the past. Solid folk/rock voice with an edge, top G.
SHERIFF JOE SUTTER – (Mid-late 20s) A young small-town policeman with an appealing intensity and a restless nature. Strong folk tenor to a G, touches an A.
EFFY KRAYNECK – (50s) Postmistress and busybody, a woman with narrow eyes and a sour tongue. Solid singer in mezzo/alto chest range. Carries close harmony.
THE VISITOR – (Mid-40s) A mysterious figure who never speaks. An actor with powerful eyes and a very strong sense of his body.
SHOW DATES:
October 8-11 & 15-18, 2026
REHEARSALS:
– Rehearsals will typically run Monday through Thursday 6:30-8:30pm
– Dates and times of conflicts provided at auditions will be considered when finalizing the rehearsal calendar
AUDITIONS INFO:
– For all characters except The Visitor, please prepare a song (around 32 bars) that showcases your vocal abilities. In choosing songs, please keep in mind the style of music in the show – it is a naturalistic style of singing.
– If possible, please bring backing tracks for your vocal audition (a Bluetooth speaker provided). A cappella is also acceptable.
– Auditions will start with vocal presentations, followed by cold reads from the script with other actors. Please plan to stay for the duration of the scheduled audition times.

– No prior acting experience is necessary, and all are welcome!
