When
Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend,
Harvey, a six and one half foot rabbit, to his guests at
a social party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his
eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have
him committed to a sanitarium. However, in explaining
the situation to a doctor, Veta is assumed to be on the
verge of lunacy and she is mistakenly committed. When
the truth surfaces, the search is on for Elwood, who has
wandered off looking for Harvey.
They
are found, but Harvey has had a strange influence on the
doctor. And Vera now admits that Harvey is not so
bad after all.
