First produced in London under the title,

“Gaslight,” it is the story of the Manninghams

who live on Angel Street in the 19th century. It

is soon apparent that Manningham, a suavely

sinister man, is slowly torturing his gentle wife

into insanity under the guise of kindness.

While he is out, Mrs. Manningham has an

unexpected caller--an amiable Scotland Yard

detective who is convinced that her husband is
